I am a member of Alpha Delta Pi as well as a member of the Centre Women’s Soccer team. Originally, I wasn’t thinking about joining a sorority, but going through recruitment allowed to see a different side of campus. Being an athlete and a member of our Greek community allowed me to develop so many connections and relationships. I would have never met half the people I know now had I never joined a sorority. Alpha Delta Pi gave me an opportunity to have another social group to be a part of and tested my capabilities to handle multiple things. As I mentioned before, I never thought I would join a sorority (let alone hold an executive position!), but being a part of two families has allowed me to become more socially confident, taught me how to manage my time, and improved my multi-tasking skills. From cleats to heels, I would not have wanted it any other way. Thank you, Centre, for allowing me to have both! Gracie Fitzgerald, Class of 2021 Alpha Delta Pi Georgetown, IN |
I am a member of the Swim & Dive team and of Kappa Delta - Iota. I chose Centre because I was very drawn to the idea of being able to be in greek life and athletics. Swimming has always been a part of my life and I did not want to give it up, but coming from an all-girl high school, I knew that joining a sorority would give me the best experience and help me grow as a woman. My freshman fall I would rush to get ready in the locker room after practice for informal recruitment events. During formal recruitment, the rho gammas worked with athletes and our busy schedule, ensuring that we got to visit each house that night. After I ran home to Kappa Delta, I was inspired by the way women in my chapter balanced their extracurriculars, academics, and greek life, and strove to do the same. My sophomore year, I ran for VP-Membership and was able to run recruitment while attending practice and leaving for SAA Swim Conference only 2 days after Bid Day. My amazing sisters and recruitment committee helped me by running errands or answering questions when I was running late from practice. I also appreciate my coaches, who understand the importance of recruitment and make our schedule more flexible. Being an athlete and a Kappa Delta has and will continue to help build me into the strong woman I am today!

Athletics has definitely impacted my experience in Greek life in many ways. It’s sadly cost me many missed chapters and date parties, but it’s also allowed me to connect with people other than the members of women’s soccer team, which I have LOVED!! For example, I held a leadership position as Scholarship Director in 2019 and lived in the Theta house, which helped me get more involved in my sorority since I was so busy with soccer! Athletics helped me find my home, as well. A few of my favorite people from the women’s soccer team were a part of Theta, and that really made me lean towards that organization during the recruitment process. But, overall, I have really enjoyed how Theta has allowed me to make other friends and given me many more opportunities besides the soccer team!
