I’m an Asian woman on campus who didn’t really consider about joining a Greek organization until I got to Centre College. I chose to go Greek because Greek life here seemed a lot more welcoming and friendly than big state schools, and once I joined, it was proven to be true. I am also a fan of Spring recruitment, because first semester of college is always the hardest (it’s slightly better now?) and I think we all can agree that we needed at least a semester to get adjusted. Being an Asian woman at a liberal art school in Kentucky can be difficult, but I’ve always been kindly treated by all students and faculty. In addition, I feel proud of my cultural background and proud to be a minority on this campus, but before I got to this point I did have some doubts about how people are viewing me. A part of me was afraid before going through recruitment because I was unsure of how each sorority will treat or view me, but my doubts have completely disappeared since my Freshman year because I was equally treated as others and I’ve met many nice and wonderful people along the way, plus many seem to be very interested in my culture and country. I can proudly say that I am a minority on campus who is a part of a Greek organization. |
